Departed wharf at 0750hrs, seas calm wind at 4 knots

Weather front along East Coast will keep us in port for several days. Unscheduled meetings with local business & donation kits distributed. Contact with Nelsons Bay RSL & Sub Branch. Meeting arranged 4th June at 1530hrs

04/June/08 - Skipper travels to Forster by road to visit family & will return when weather improves
05/June/08 - Contact made with local Legacy group Anthony Mumford who visited boat for project briefing
06/June/08 - Contact & visit to Coastal Patrol HQ at Port Stephens. Met staff & brief on project. Obtained weather forecast for next 4 days. Contact with local newspaper 'Examiner' & interviewed for article.
07/June/08 - administration & boat cleaning
08/June/08 - more administration, contact with Singapore Changi Museum & RSYC. We may get away later tonight if weather window opens & if so we will proceed direct to Coffs Harbour & lay over there.

Departed wharf at 0750hrs, seas calms wind at 4 knots

Course set to next port, Newcastle & Noakes Shipyard
Distance travelled 32NM.
Travel time 6 hours 12 minutes.

Followed in coal carrier & proceeded to fuel point. Took on 735 litres diesel. Arrival in good condition, secured at Noakes Marina & took onboard 655 litres Diesel. Met Shirley Myles Honorary 'Z' Force member, who made contact after hearing radio interview on 2GB. Decision taken to proceed to Forster so as not to fall behind schedule. Departed Newcastle Harbour at 1610hrs. Weather deteriorated with gale force winds & high seas moving faster than forecast.

At Fingal Bay we are running into severe weather & decision taken to seek shelter at Port Stephens. Distance travelled 27NM. Arrived d’Albora Marina at 2130hrs after a challenging 2 hours against the weather.


Log Entry 1 - Day 1 - Sunday 1 June 2008

We are finally on our way on this grand adventure. First stop Gosford to meet with Horrie Young, one of the original members. Horrie is 87 and we are looking forward to a quiet dinner with him. The weather is pretty ordinary and we are working on gaining our sea legs.

Departure from Australian National Maritime Museum Darling Harbour at 1000hrs (as scheduled) aboard "NGAKALA"

Attendance at the Heritage Wharf included Family & Friends as well as representatives of Legacy along with well wishers who have become aware of the project due to the publicity generated by Alan Jones AO during the past week. Live 2GB radio interview from the wharf.

A Coastal Patrol vessel & two private boats escorted Ngakala from Darling Harbour to the Heads adding to the tribute to the memory of the men who travelled aboard the "KRAIT" to execute the most daring & successful commando raid in Australian Military History.

Course set to Ettalong. Distance travelled 32NM. Travel time 4 hours 12 minutes. Arrival in good condition, secured at public wharf beside ferry jetty. Neil Young (son of Horace "HORRIE" Young met us & convey the news of his father's failing health. Wind up & seas running with forecast for deteriorating conditions over next 4 days.
