The Operation Pilgrimage Crew
Three ex-Australian Army commandos (members of the Operation Pilgrimage Group) are reliving the "Krait" exploit to raise money for Legacy. Leaving Sydney June 1, 2008 they expect to arrive in Singapore in September 2008, on the 65th anniversary of the original daring attack. |

The Current Crew
Allan Miles

Allan "Pilgrim" Miles served in 1 Commando Company from 1963 & left that unit in 1976 after completing Special Forces training in land, sea & air operations. In 1978 lead a team to New Guinea & walked the Kokoda Track. It was the first of 7 destinations before building Camp Alpha with 3 partners in 1984 & continuing until 1990. This bush camp provided specialised & adventure training for government & civilian groups over a 6 year period.
In 1992 retired to start Operation Pilgrimage Group with simple but demanding objectives. "PILGRIM'S" experience as a planner for national & international operational & strategic special projects allowed him to consult to multi-nationals & governments on all continents. He has conceived, planned & lead all 9 projects the group has undertaken. As part of "PILGRIM'S" planning process he completes several reconnaissances of each of the areas to be travelled & thus is a major contributor to the success of each project.
9/11 impacted heavily on "PILGRIM" & when seeing the blame game being played decided to plan & undertake 3 peace projects "before he curled his toes up" in his "PILGRIMAGES FOR PEACE" program. Operation Pilgrimage 9 "Following the Krait" is the first in this series as his contribution to peaceful co-existence in our area of South East Asia. Over the past 7 years he has completed reconnaissance of 57 countries. He is single & lives in Sydney.

Jim Healy
Jim "Holy" Healy served in 1 Commando Company 1962 till 1970 & completed Special Forces training in land, sea & air operations. A team member on 2 pilgrimages. "HOLY" lives with his family on the Gold Coast of Queensland where he is a senior member of Queensland Surf Life Saving, still making a valuable contribution to Australia.

Neil Young
Neil "Buddy" Young served in 1 Commando Company from 1972 to 1974 & completed Special Forces training in land, sea & air operations. The son of "Horrie" Young who was on Operation Jaywick" aboard the Krait in 1943. "BUDDY" will be the team's historian. This will be "BUDDY'S" first pilgrimage. Retired & single he lives on the Central Coast of New South Wales.

Robert Mason
Robert "Rob" Mason served in 1 Commando Company from 1964 to 1968 & completed Special Forces training in land, sea & air operations. "ROB" operates a tourist/cruise boat on Sydney Harbour. Has trekked Kokoda Track & was on Operation Pilgrimage 1 "Expedition to Cape York" in 1994. Lives with his partner in Sydney.
